Parliament Addresses SJK(T) Special Education Disparity, Mother Tongue Learning

3 mentions

Parliament discussed the expansion of special education classes in SJK(T)s and the inclusion of Tamil language for special needs students in the 2027 curriculum. These measures aim to enhance inclusive education and mother tongue preservation.

PPKI Class Expansion and Disparity

Tuan Wong Kah Woh, Deputy Minister KPM — The Ministry of Education (KPM) expands Special Education Integration Program (PPKI) classes annually across all school types, including SJK(T). Applications are thoroughly reviewed by the State Education Department (JPN) before KPM makes a decision on approval or expansion. The KPM acknowledges existing constraints in this expansion process.

Sememangnya setiap tahun pihak KPM ada membuat peluasan kelas PPKI di seluruh negara, tidak kira lah sama ada sekolah kebangsaan, sekolah jenis kebangsaan Cina, sekolah jenis kebangsaan Tamil ataupun sekolah menengah kebangsaan.

Tuan Cha Kee Chin, Rasah — Expressed gratitude for the Deputy Minister's response, noting its significance for those involved in SJK(C) and SJK(T). He highlighted a disparity in PPKI class availability in Seremban district. While 40% of national schools (SK) have PPKI classes, only 13% of SJK(C)s do, a trend he noted as similar nationwide.

Memang saya anggap ini sebagai pengumuman yang dinanti-nantikan oleh warga pendidik dan juga ibu bapa yang ada anak termasuk saya, di kelas PPKI di SJK(C).

Mother Tongue Language in Curriculum 2027

Tuan Wong Kah Woh, Deputy Minister KPM — Confirmed that under the Kurikulum Persekolahan 2027 (KP 2027), Bahasa Cina and Bahasa Tamil will be offered as subjects for Students with Special Educational Needs (MBPK) from SJK(C) and SJK(T) streams. This initiative aims to strengthen the position and learning of mother tongue languages for these students. Bahasa Melayu and Bahasa Inggeris are already consistently offered, alongside other subjects like Mathematics and Moral Education.

These discussions underscore Parliament's focus on ensuring equitable access to special education and preserving mother tongue instruction within the national curriculum for Tamil school students.
