The MP cited a 2020 UIAM Kuantan study on 414 students in five vernacular schools in Kuantan, which found that 65.2% did not master written Malay, almost 40% were not fluent in reading Malay, and over half were weak in speaking Malay. The MP asked if private schools were included in the national unity index findings and how the Ministry of National Unity, Ministry of Education, and Ministry of Higher Education would collaborate to strengthen the use of the national language.
